Aurora singing the national anthem before a large marathon

Aurora singing the National Anthem before the start of a marathon

1 / What will we do in a voice lesson?

It will basically be guided by you! If you are working on an audition, we'll work on that. If you're wanting a foundation in music theory or general singing techniques, we'll do that. If you're not sure what you want to work on, we can absoutely figure it out together!

2 / What ages do you teach?

I happily teach all ages! I suppose you have to be old enough to talk to take with me, but I've taught music to kids as young as 4 and as old as 67. Generally, kids 9 and under should probably only take half hour lessons as it's hard to concentrate for too much more than that. But the benefits of music on children's brains has been well-studied. If they're 4, we're not singing giant ballads, but they can certainly learn the concept of notes in a staff and about musical symbols, how to read rhythms, match pitch, and all of that kind of wonderful stuff!

On the other side of the coin, it's never ever ever too late to learn. As long as we have breath in our lungs, we can be adding beauty and music to our lives!

3 / What styles do you teach?

I mainly do musical theater along with some contemporary or pop and even a little jazz. I hate to say it, but if you want to do classical, you should probably find someone else. I'm always down to try to help to the best of my ability but it is not nor has it ever been my jam, so I wouldn't try to put the square peg in the round hole. However, if you want to do musical theater, I am 100% your theater-kid turned theater-adult musical-adoring pal who can work with you on any musical under the sun with great enthusiasm, knowledge, and expertise! And goodness, would I love to!

4 / How much do lessons cost?

I generally charge $55/half hour. However! There are a lot of ways to save money!

Buying hour-long lessons saves you $10/hour, and buying in packs saves as well! (e.g. a pack of 10 hour long lessons brings the cost down to $42.50/half hour (meaning a savings of almost $13/hour!)

5 / Okay, so then what's your favorite musical if you love them so much?

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It has such fantastic roles for everyone. There are so many great character sounds and a chance to play with such big emotions as the stakes of the bee feel Ooooooohhhhhh so high for every contestant in there. (But I have numerous musicals I love and look forward to hearing which ones you love as well!)

6 / Can you help me with [x, y, z]?

If it's preparing any piece of musical theater for an audition - absolutely. If it's learning any musical or music theory concept like the circle of 5th, time signatures, poly-rhyhtms and things like that, for sure. If it's in the realm of performing or more deeply understanding music, yeah, I think I can help. But if you're not sure, just drop my a line on the contact page!
